Fish treat with pumpkin and oats
The recipe for this treat has been prepared in cooperation with veterinarian Liisa Siimon. The ingredients selected for the recipe are low in calories, easy to digest, motivationally tasty and easy to chew – therefore ideal for training and rewarding.
The Baltic sprat in the treat is a valuable source of highly digestible protein that contains essential omega-3 fatty acids, which have anti-inflammatory, immune-stimulating and joint-healthy effects. Calcium, phosphorus and vitamin D in fish are important in regulating bone metabolism and are involved in keeping teeth and bones strong. Water-soluble vitamins of the B group participate in the metabolism of fats, carbohydrates and proteins, are necessary for the normal functioning of muscles, including the heart muscle, and the nervous system, and vitamin B12, or cobalamin, and folates play an important role in hematopoiesis.
Pumpkin is a source of low-calorie carbohydrates and fiber, so it helps regulate immunity and digestion. Beta-glucans help reduce high cholesterol levels, balance blood sugar levels and support the immune system. In dogs, beta-carotene is a precursor to vitamin A. Vitamin A is necessary for the development of bones and muscles, for reproduction and for building and renewing the epithelium of the skin, intestines and respiratory tract. Thanks to its high fiber content, pumpkin helps to regulate bowel function and immune function.
Oats are an excellent source of carbohydrates and fiber. Oats contain two types of fiber. Soluble fibers and beta-glucans are richly represented, which balance blood sugar levels, lower blood cholesterol and stimulate the immune system. Insoluble fibers are a habitat and food source for beneficial bacteria in the colon, and their fermentation releases short-chain fatty acids, which are an important source of energy for intestinal epithelial cells. The essential omega-6 fatty acid in oats is important in maintaining healthy skin and coat.
Fish treats with pumpkin and oats are pleasant to the mouth and convenient to put in your pocket, as they do not fall or smell strongly.
